Only a few kilometres from slovakian border, located in South Central Poland, surrounded by the Tatra mountains is the resort of Zakopane, popular amongst skiing enthusiasts during the winter, and mountain lovers throughout the entire year. At the end of XVIII and beginning of XIX century, Zakopane became a famous centre of art and culture in Poland. It was suppressed during the II World War and throughout the period of Soviet domination. At present the town is regaining its former glory, presenting its beautiful traditional timber architecture.
